Garter Rib-versible Hat






This hat is knit in the round and is entirely reversible. It’s sized for an adult female –circumference is about 20”. You can add or subtract stitches in multiples of 4 and add or subtract rows of ribbing as necessary for length.

Materials: worsted weight yarn and size 9 DPNs (or circular needle for Magic Loop).
Gauge in K2 P2 rib, unstretched: 4 st/inch and 5 rows/inch

CO 80 sts. Place marker and join round, being careful not to twist.

Work 6 rounds of K2 P2 ribbing.

Rounds 7 and 8 together make up one repeat of the “Reversible Rib Pattern”.
Round 7: K all stitches.
Round 8: *K2,P2. Repeat from * around.
Repeat “Reversible Rib Pattern” 5 more times (total of 6 repeats).

Work 6 more rounds of K2 P2 rib, then another 6 repeats (12 rounds) of the “Reversible Rib Pattern”.

Work 2 more rounds of K2 P2 rib.

Begin decreasing for top of hat: *K2 P2tog. Repeat from * around. (60 st)
Next round: *K2, P1. Repeat from * around.
Next round: *K2tog, P1. Repeat from * around. (40 st)
Next round: *K1, P1. Repeat from * around.
Next round: K2tog around. (20 st)
Next round: K2tog around. (10 st)
Next round: K2tog around. (5 st.)
Gather remaining st and weave in ends.
